Geri Amori, PhD, ARM, DFASHRM, CPHRM, is a nationally known speaker, facilitator and consultant on risk management and communication issues in healthcare and patient safety. Dr. Amori is Past President of the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management, a 4,300-member professional association, as well as Past President of the Northern New England Society for Healthcare Risk Management.

Dr. Amori was the 2004 recipient of the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management’s coveted Distinguished Service Award, which has been awarded nine times in its twenty-four year history and is presented at the discretion of the Board of Directors upon membership nomination.

Dr. Amori served as Risk Manager at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vermont for 12 years where she developed expertise in office practice risk management as well as workers’ compensation and captive operations. In the 1980’s, she was Psychopharmacology Clinic and Research Coordinator with the University Associates in Psychiatry. Prior to that, she worked in mental health.

In 1990, she landed a role in Vermont’s Lyric Theatre’s “Anything Goes.” Since then she has pursued the study of acting and the use of theatre as a medium for education in building effective communication skills. Dr. Amori blends the use of role-plays, interactive dialogue, and group involvement to teach effective communication.

She is an active member of the National Speaker’s Association and a former member of the Board of Directors of Vermont Stage Company. In addition, she is a member at large of the Board of the Northern New England Society for Healthcare Risk Management, a member of the Consumers Advancing Patient Safety Board of Directors, an advisor to Partnership for Patient Safety, and a lifetime member of the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management.

Dr. Amori’s most frequently requested programs include disclosure of medical events and outcomes, leadership and teamwork, dealing with difficult patients, delivery of poor-prognosis news, partnering with patients, office based risk management, effect of malpractice litigation on providers, various aspects of patient safety, and more. Her clients include Voluntary Hospitals of America, Harvard Risk Management Foundation, AIG and numerous other organizations throughout the country.
