Patient Safety Theatre™
. . . when you want change
to be dramatic
Patient Safety Theatre™ is a unique educational product provided in partnership by Geri Amori, PhD, ARM, DFASHRM, CPHRM, risk manager and educator, and Dana Yeaton, award-winning playwright and professor at Middlebury College, Vermont. Together they have worked with patient safety leaders, insurance companies, policymakers and individuals to create and produce interactive performance pieces for patient safety conferences, healthcare organization programs and general education of the healthcare community.

Nothing delivers new ideas with the impact of live performance. Because it entertains while it informs, theatre can help even the most critical audience members see their world from a new perspective. Whether scripted or improvised, what happens on stage has the power to engage, not just intellectually, but emotionally. In short, theatre is personal.
Theatre does not tell us what to think. Instead, it offers audience members direct experience from which they are allowed to draw their own conclusions. Patient Safety Theatre™ creates a situation in which medical professionals can practice working through the very problems they are likely to confront. Each play is presented with some combination of interactive pre-show and/or follow-up activities, guaranteed to keep audiences debating the fine points long after the presentation has ended.
Can a presentation be designed to fit my organization's needs?
Patient Safety Theatre™ can be presented in any setting and at any level of production, from a sit-down "chamber-style" reading, to a case-based improvisation, to a full production including props, costumes, lights and sound. Shows are also designed to fit your organization's schedule; a play can be presented in one sitting, or take place in installments over the course of several days.
Is there audience participation?
Nearly all Patient Safety Theatre™ includes some level of audience participation; perhaps they'll be called upon to choose among alternative endings, or asked for input to help steer a character's choice during an improvisation. In some cases, audience members themselves become on-stage characters. We've even drafted staff members from the commissioning organization into performing speaking roles complete with costumes and make up!
How does an organization commission a new play?
If you've got something to say to an audience, we've got everything it takes to deliver your message in a compelling, original and interactive way. Together we develop goals, focus content, set a production budget and create a timeline for collaboration. You remain involved with the script at critical points in its development. The rest is up to us.
